Hockey Fights Cancer - Special Jerseys and a Great Cause
On Saturday and Sunday, Southside Ice Arena will go purple. That's because it is time for this year's Hockey Fights Cancer weekend. This collaborative effort raises funds to support cancer research at Van Andel Institute (VAI). Last year the event raised over $75,000.
There will be many exciting events throughout the weekend including some special purple ice, family skate, good food, and many hockey games including the all-star game on Sunday featuring Mike Knuble and Travis Richards.

Fox Motors Hockey Club, Grand Rapids Catholic Central, and Byron Center will all be wearing special Addix purple hockey jerseys in honor of the event. Their jerseys are pictured below along with GVSU's purple hockey jerseys from their January Purple Community event.
On January 27th, Grand Valley State University's D3 Hockey Team wore special purple jerseys as well for their own Purple Community Hockey Fights Cancer night. It was their third annual Hockey Fights Cancer event, and all proceeds went to Van Andel Institute for cancer research. In these games, each player wore or is wearing personalized jerseys for someone who has battled or is currently battling cancer.
GVSU raised over $7,000 for the cause. You can find more information about that awesome event here.
