“The East Grand Rapids Hearts of Gold Initiative has raised over $500,000 for not-for-profits outside of the EGR area since the program’s inception.”
East Grand Rapids (MI) - This year, Addix had the privilege of being a part of the East Grand Rapids Hearts of Gold soccer and volleyball games. The Pioneers hosted South Christian for their annual Hearts of Gold games this September which Addix made cause game jerseys for. Each year, the Hearts of Gold initiative has a non-profit they raise funds for. This year, it was The Children’s Advocacy Center of Kent County.
In recent years, the Hearts of Gold Initiative has benefited The Children’s Advocacy Center of Kent County, Kid’s Food Basket, Arbor Circle, Ele’s Place, Billy Bear Hug, Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan and the Be Nice Campaign, and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. The entire Hearts of Gold Initiative has raised over $500,000 for not-for-profits outside of the EGR area since the program’s inception with a focus on benefiting children’s physical and mental health. The week concluded with the annual Hearts of Gold Football game, this year between the Pioneers and Sailors.
“We began it 2009 because the football team wanted to make a difference after an East Grand Rapids student passed away from childhood cancer,” Hearts of Gold board member Natalie Bernecker told MLive’s Steve Kaminski in 2014.
It is a combined effort of the entire EGR community, and entering their 10th year in 2019, they are currently looking for not-for-profits to benefit for 2019.
